This is the live fire portion of the Level 1 Home Defense course and will teach the basic defensive techniques for using the carbine (AR platform 5.56/.223). The course will start with the basics of marksmanship and progress to more advanced exercises. The emphasis will be on improving students' confidence and skill in handling the carbine with a focus on the fundamentals.

NOTE: Students should remember the importance of staying hydrated and nourished throughout their training sessions. It is crucial that they not only consume an adequate amount of water and maintain a well-balanced diet prior to their training but also carry provisions such as food and water with them to sustain their energy levels during the course.

The 2-hour live fire portion of CAAFI's 8-hour Defensive Fundamentals Level 1 class which is developed for the beginner level student is designed to cover a full range of instruction on the defensive fundamentals using a demonstration-performance instructional model.  With emphasis on the safe handling of the carbine, students will be provided with high level instruction on fundamentals such as:

Range Safety Rules and Medical Briefing

Universal Firearms Safety Rules

Proper shooting stance

Shooting positions (Standing; Kneeling, and Prone)

Grip  ( i.e., High bore; Center Handguard, and Magwell) for proper handling

Low / High Ready Muzzle and Retention

Shooting from ready positions

Reloads (Tactical and Combat)

Zeroing an Optic

Mechanical Offset 

Fixed Sight Adjustments

Minute of Angle (MOA)

Malfunctions e.g., Stovepipes and double feeds)

Through a series of static shooting drills, students will improve their marksmanship, skills, and abilities with handling their carbines. The static shooting drills will consist of receiving instruction on engaging single to multiple targets through sighted shooting, as well as engaging multiple targets in  close-quarter battle drills. To liven things up, there will be both individual and team competition drills.
